No idea what you mean by CM or LM.
But if you look at the bill from fedex there will be a tariff code listed.
It'll be something like 64xx.xx.xx.xx where the x's are digits.
Look it up in chapter 64. http://www.usitc.gov/tata/hts/bychapter/index.htm
If the description is wildly different, you can try and fight fedex for a refund.

I usually figure on about 8.5% so $84 sounds high for Meermin. But ask yourself how much your time is worth to get it corrected.

Thanks, I just checked....It looks like they're charging 12.5% because Meerminn listed the leather shoes as "Shoes, other" category. Also the value is listed at $620 bucks, not the actual cost of the shoes, which is about $320.

your explanation cleared things up. greatly appreciate it.

Quote:No idea about Frans Boone but you will get hit by Brokerage fees (~40% of order value) from CNCPTS.

Regarding Frans Boone, I haven't ordered... yet. But I think you can guarantee getting hit.

I like that they automatically deduct VAT. Best thing is to wait for some free international shipping to offset some of the costs of duties.

I asked if they could ship with a domestic courier, but they will not, UPS it is.

How do you know if a website will do VAT deduction or not? How do you know they charge VAT?

Yes. One time I bought a pair of Tricker's and they wrote "Men's Brogues" as the description. Fedex dude had no idea WTF that meant so package was delayed a day or two.
A couple orders also passed through with no charge.
    All were via Fedex.

Does anyone have recent experience ordering from Orslow in Japan. They will send the item via EMS. So Orlow and EMS -- what are the odds that I got hit with customs/duties in the US? Thanks.

I am interested as well. anyone?

Looks like they add VAT to orders...I wonder if they would remove that if you asked.

How likely is it to be hit by customs duties and taxes in the UK if you use overseas national couriers such as USPS?
