Thanks! I contacted him last month upon suggestion and he added the speedhooks to his menu. I got tied up and never made the order but just sent it off as this thread reminded me. Pics when I get them back.

First time poster long time lurker in the Alden thread. Brass eyelets on these Crew PCTs. The speed hooks felt loose and frail so I had a local guy replace them and all the eyelets with solid brass. He hand snipped the backs of each eyelet for a better grab. These suckers aren't going anywhere.

OMG... so nice. How much did your guy charge? Also, how are you like all eyelets in terms of taking off the boot?

It was $45 out the door. I undo the top four and loosen the next two as I normally would exit a boot with speed hooks. It just takes 15-20 seconds more per boot to lace up if I had to guess. I love the look and it's totally worth the extra 30 seconds of lacing imo.

Looks amazing and great price for the conversion!

Cleaned up my snuff LWB so I figured I'd post them. Had about a year and a half of wear when the heels needed replaced and the toe was down to the welt almost. Had my cobbler fill the toe and slap on the Alden commando half sole and low profile heel. Alden snuff suede is bulletproof though...I love these.

@seanathanjon That is great - I was wondering what the commando sole would look like glued on...congrats!

I was quoted $310 to customize my Alden Roy boots - $140 to replace black eyelets and speed hooks with antiqued brass and $170 to change the sole from plantation crepe to commando. I've never tried doing something like this before so I'm not sure if this quote is reasonable. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

I was quoted around the same for conversion to brass eyelets/speedhooks. The change of the sole only sounds slightly more expensive than what I've heard around SF.

I think that's very pricey. At $310 you might as well add some more for new pair of boots. Brass eyelets as a member mentioned a few post above is $40 at his local cobbler. There are plenty of boots out there with brass/commando already can be obtain for ~$585, eg, TSM CXL PCTs with brass and commando.

I'm trying to decide between JR and flex welt soles for a re-sole on my calf LWB. I'm leaning towards the flex welt since it's a little softer and water resistant. Any downside to the flex welt over the JR?

For brass eyelets, send them to Sublime Goods--$40/pair, and Mack does great work.

Quote: I tried to contact Mack for similar work and it seems he is currently not doing modifications. He opened a store called Brogue and is devoting his attention to that that.

Nothing too fancy here. Had Aram from ahonshoes add eyelets to my Leffot unlined dovers. This guy does amazing work and the eyelets took these from shoes I rarely reached for (and contemplated selling) to ones that are at the top of my rotation.

Crappy IPhone pic's really don't do them justice.
