Italy asumed, that in a group with New Zealand, Paraguay and Slovakia, advancing to the finals, would be little harder then wiping their ass after a trip to the bathroom...

but someone messed with the pasta fagioli and things got a little messy!

I'll have to console myself with having seen two italy world cup wins. Oh well, this is soccer. We knew we wouldn't repeat. A first round exit sucks but what can you do. Now I can actually enjoy the rest off the world cup without worrying about Italy.

you just said you never heard of him so how can you say he is nowhere near as good? [IMG]
Five goals allowed out of six shots on goal is a pretty good indication. [IMG]

Italy probably squeaks by to the knockout round if a healthy Buffon is playing.

this isn't baseball. your stats knowledge is worthless here, sorry. there is not a big difference between starter and back-up at national team level. and marchetti had a better club season than buffon did.

this is why you should take everything you read about futbol with a grain of salt. for one thing, much of it is marketing hype, and if you don't actually watch games but only read about them you will think there are a handful of superhuman players who are head and shoulders above everyone else. it doesn't work that way.

i don't know about your numbers but there are parts of l.a. where one could live his life comfortably speaking only russian, korean, spanish, armenian, arabic, farsi, etc. not a word of english needed. do you have that in seattle?

No, but that isn't what we are talking about either. Maybe more minorities in this area speak english. Who knows. [IMG] My numbers come from city census data available online.

The numbers he gave are misleading. White doesn't necessarily mean non-ethnic. LA had a 46.5% Hispanic population, according to the 2000 Census. Many of those people are considered white.

The numbers are only as misleading as any other racial demographic data to be found in census information. Which, by the way is pretty much the only data available. In other words, Hispanic doesn't neccesarily mean you are or aren't white. Which is why I listed the number for "whites" and not Hispanics. Its a more appropriate benchmark. A larger portion of L.A., according to census data consider themselves "white".

How about that fella that came on for Slovakia at the end (Kopunek?), his first touch of the ball ever in the world cup and it's a game winning goal!

and advance his team into the next round. amazing really.

Damn, can't wait for this weekend to start. Will go watch the second half of Cameroon-Netherlands for lunch today. I'm really excited to watch the Brazil-Portugal game tomorrow. Saturday should be one hell of a good time watching the US play at a bar in Newport Beach. Great games on Sunday too with another chance to watch Messi perform. It should be a great weekend boys.

I really enjoy watching their game. In general, African teams play with a lot of heart and usually have exciting matches.

I understand. I hope the Dutch will show some nice play tonight.

To correct my earlier post, it's not really the numbers that are misleading. Your conflating "diversity" with "race" is misleading. You're correct. LA is more white than Seattle. However, the original point was about how diverse the two cities are, not how white the two cities are. By using race as the lone indicator of diversity, you ignore other important indicators of diversity. If you want to look at how diverse the two cities are, you should probably account for things such as national origin instead of race alone.

Dunno. Which of the three today should he have stopped? The one where the guy was in free clear of any defenders and had the goalmouth totally at his mercy? Or the other one where the guy was in free of any defenders and had the goalmouth totally at his mercy?

Yeah, no way Slovakia makes it past the next round. They were just wrecked for the last 15 minutes. Still, they did their country proud.
