Office Shirts: Button-down or no buttons?

Hi,

I've got an internship this summer and I'm looking for some guidance. The internship will be in Washington, DC in the accounting industry.

What are my options for work shirts when going business casual (khaki dress pants, button up shirt, no tie)? Are shirts with button-down collars recommended, or do most people wear non-button down shirts? Thanks.

I am not from the area, but in business casual khakis and button down collars (no tie) are probably a minimum. Assuming that's what most people are wearing and you are a student looking for potential work down the road, you may want to dress a bit better than that.

I work in an accounting firm and it's fine if you wear polo shirts for BC. The 2 main rules in my office for mens shirts are must have a collar and no Hawaiian shirts.

Ah yes, Polos or golf shirts given away as gack. See lots of those around here too.

I prefer button down collars with no tie. Collar stays in place better.

For business casual both are just as correct, albeit the plain ones can be a bit dressier. It's all up to you.
