We have a conservative, professional office dedicated to a rather mundane legal chore with virtually no face-to-face contact with clients, and so are dress is basically office casual most of the year.
Lately, (and suddenly) I've noticed three or four of the ladies trying to "outdo" each other with expensive LV and Coach purses, high heels, low cut blouses, designer dresses, beautiful leather jackets, and so far, it's getting really crazy, like Project Runway, but I can't complain, as productivity is up.
I attribute this dramatic and stunning turn of events to the scarcity of available men in the office and the need of women to assert their dominance over each other through dress. Question: am I correct? Are they dressing like this to assert their power amongst themselves, like a peacock unfurling it's feathers, or are the ladies directing all this fashion towards some intended suitor? (There's only one guy of marrying age). Or both?
I've noticed that my office wardrobe is getting more casual, even to the point where someone said something the other day. I had on dark jeans and a black shirt.
Question: I have a pair of slim (not skinny) cotton pants, darkish gray, that definately look rock and roll. I am thinking of wearing them with black ankle boots. I am bound to raise eyebrows, as the look with the guys is decidedly J.Crew, khakis and sweaters this time of year.
Can I do it and get away with it, or am I about to become the Emo of the office?
