soupcxan, that's a pretty normal scenario (at least in law offices). Just buy the suit with a couple of extra trousers, and deal with it. The point of view that you should wear the jacket in the office, especially when others aren't, is probably one confined to these boards. You don't see people wearing jackets in the office, outside of meetings, either in the States or the UK. And why be the "jacket guy" when you don't have to be?

I agree totally. If you value the job, you need to fit in. You are not in a position to complain about the office customs or the dress code your first week.

If your life is not more important than your clothes, you will probably cause yourself some interesting and unpleasant situations sooner or later.

My advice to you, if you really want to incite outrage in your colleagues, would be to get three piece suits and proxy the vest for the jacket during the day. You'll soon become known in the corridors of power as, "the vest." Most people think an odd jacket and trou are a suit....so thats perfect.

I really doubt that a blazer and trou are going to be looked at badly.

Or you could buy enough suits that you will take a long time wearing them out....and look sharp everyday.

You can buy RL polo suits, where they offer odd trou of the same shade and just buy a few pairs.

so why is it people feel the need to take off the suit jacket for an office job? Is it for comfort or they don't want to wrinkle it? I'm at a desk 10 hours a day and I always keep the jacket on. Otherwise, what's the point of wearing a suit?
