Thanks all for your help. They were in the sale from an online retailer and I have some heel slip in the shoe in question, but not the other one. Wanted to make sure the difference in fit was not down to a defect. I think it's likely just to do with how stiff the leather is at the moment (sole and upper) and should get better/not get worse.

Looks fine to me. If I had such a pair and the slight gap bothered, there is always the option of filling it in with polish.

They other is the outlet with past season, made for outlet stuff. Prices are lower. They say it's all first quality.

Lovely sir! I’d probably still spray with suede spray even though leather is scotchgaurded in the tanning. Be a nice summer casual shoe.

Those soles should be comfy too. I have some red wing chukka’s with similar sole and they’re comfier than most trainers.

Also they’re nearly 4 years old and have plenty of wear left. Didn’t expect that
