Looking at getting a pair of Stows. I have Cheaney in 10.5 and C&J in 10.5 too (standard width for both). Mixture of boots and shoes. Stick to the same size for the Stows?
Probably the first of many pairs ?

Are trickers regarded on the same level as c and j in terms of build quality/materials?

Both makers have exceptional build quality so if I were the differentiate I would say that the Trickers lasts are more casual whereas C&J are more classy. Not that you can’t dress up the former but it’s much easier with the latter. Something to do with the width of the welts in my opinion, Trickers has very wide ones whereas the C&J ones are cut a lot closer to the shoe. Both great purchases and unique in their own way.

Those massive welts are the hallmark of Trickers and one of the things which drew me to them in the first place. But yes they surely do lend them a more rugged look than the C&J models.

Absolutely..... case in point...

To go back to the original question though : I would pick Trickers for casual boots and a wider variety of leather options. For me C&J has the best grain and especially their brown grain by far. Just kills me each time.

Tricker's can do more refined.

And C&J can do chunky country.

But yeah in general C&J strength is towards the more refined side and Tricker's to the casual side.
Tricker's offers a much wider range of materials and styles. I think C&J has a slight edge in the materials they do offer but that could be the Horween cordovan fan in me talking.
C&J don't seem to have as many manufacturing errors like the askew facings or badly placed medallions.
Tricker's can be found at much lower prices.

Ah is that the Allan in Cordovan? Lovely version. Me been a bit torn about buying either the Burford or Allan on a Vibram Vi Lite sole or getting the new C&J Islay on the cleated sole.

The Outlet site now has a lot of newer versions of the Stow in rough out suedes and grain versions on commando. I'm tempted except for the fact I've decided that maybe I will get an Islay in black grain on a cleated sole instead.
