The Woodstock is so chunky I waver between thinking the visible eyelets suit it and then thinking the blind eyelets add a more refined touch. My compromise answer was to get the Kudu Woodstock deal a while back. :colgate:

I think visible eyelets suits them as they are quite a chunky country shoe.

Crafty x Trickers monkey boot. This is on 4497s last and have just arrived at Shoe Healer. I was ordering as a one off mto but they liked and asked if could order a batch, I’m biased but..

"Super Shoes", which as far as I can tell is the Woodstock with visible eyelets and thicker laces. Wearing them is like walking with Socrates: "Is the Woodstock better with blind or visible eyelets?" I ask myself every time I look down.

I think the visible eyelets suit them. I have a long unworn pair of Woodstocks in black that are a bit "neither fish nor fowl" in that they're a bit chunky for formal wear but not casual enough for jeans etc. Granted that's part of the deal with black shoes. I'm even considering going the white vibram christy resole route in an attempt to get them back into rotation.

A quick fix is have a cobbler lighten the edges and apply an antique finish. If wanting less formality adding silver eyelets would make a totally different shoe for buttons. I’d have toe plates added too. Shoe Healer would be first port for them.

Thanks CC. (I lived in Cumbria for a few years, many, many years ago. In fact it was a friend up there who owned the first pair of Trickers I'd ever seen!)

I hadn't considered having anything done with the edges and wasn't even sure that was possible so thanks for that suggestion. I like the look of the natural welt against a darker upper (I have some coffee Stows with this feature) so this might be something along those lines. I hate leather soles anyway so I don't mind getting them resoled with something more practical!

Really appreciate the advice.

Where did you live here?
If you chop soles off I’d get a Vibram sole they have in which is identical to a Ridgeway. You can then get white stitching but leave the welt black. Be a nice touch.

1001 Stow
Those look lovely CC. Wish I'd been more careful polishing my 1001 Stows as they've gone a rather orangey shade, think Judith Chalmers meets Peter Stringfellow (if you can bear to think of that).
Not sure what it is about the 1001 but it seems to take on other colours very easily. Not that they're horrible now, just a bit tatty and not as nice as the original pale, slightly-muted tan shade shown above.
