Hi guys, I figured this was the place to come for advice.

Do Tricker's fit short? I picked up a pair of shortwing brogues in UK 10.5 and while they feel fine width wise, my toes are crushed :<

Written on the inside of the shoe is the following:

881985
n7409
10.5

I'm assuming of these, the n7409 means a normal fitting on the 7409 last?

Those are a size 10. The 5 indicates the width and 5 is the standard width. If it was a 10.5 it would be written 10 1/2.

No clue what the first line of numbers means, but the second line is usually the style number.
Biggen speaks the truth wrt size indications.
Tricker's writes half sizes as 1/2 rather than .5.

Hi guys,

I'm looking at the Minster in 4444 Country last, but am really undecided about the sizing. :(
I'm an 8.5E in Allen Edmonds Strands and a 9 in Clarks DBs..

I guess I would fall somewhere between 7, 7.5, or 8 (UK).
I would really appreciate if someone that has tried on a shoe in the 4444 last and also owns either a pair of Clarks DBs or AEs Strands could give me some pointers.

Thanks,
Steve

Welcome, Steve! I'm normally an 8.5D in Strands (although I'm starting to realize I'm probably closer to an E), and I wear a 7.5, fitting 5 in the 4444 last. I do put in a tongue pad since I have a low instep, but length-wise it's a good fit. Hope this helps.

Odd question, but I got a pair of the Not Stows in a UK 10.5 (I'm a US11) they fit fine, except the toe box extends at least a couple finger lengths beyond the end of my foot.

It's kinda hard to descrbibe but it's almost like a small size wouldn't work as it's only the last bit that's doing this.

I think it's the taper of the toes, and it sounds to me like you probably have the correct size. Consensus on the not-Stows seems to be 1/2 down from US sizing. My own experience is that I tried both 1/2 and 1 full size down, and for me the smaller size is way too short. But the caveat is that I do not like short and snug shoes.

Anyway, bottom line is that what you're saying is not out of the ordinary. It might just be a visual thing with the shape that bothers you. But try this: see if you can push your foot forward about another quarter inch into the shoes (i.e.: fit a finger behind your heel). You should be able to tell roughly whether you'd be able to size down; but I'm guessing you'll see that your toes get crammed quickly.

Great pickup. How's the suede?

The suede and the other leather in the lining is buttery soft. And the soles are channeled impeccably. The quality is impressive, as usual.

And I'm yet to find a defect, despite them selling these as seconds. These have some scratches on the sole and a little dust on the box, so I am guessing they were display models that they wanted to move out.

I just got a pair of McNairy/Sanders 4 eyelet wingtips similar to the Bourton/Ilkley style.
The fit is very similar with the 4444 maybe having slightly more volume.

61/2

I have some McNairy (for Tres Bien) boots in an 8 and they fit me superbly - most comfy shoes I have. My size 8 Ilkely are huge and still slide with an insole and thick socks. My 71/2 Keswick (same last) are much better.

I'm going to have to sell the zug grain Ilkley as they just wont fit - and are brand new!

Your best bet would be to contact a Tricker's specialist such as Richard at the Shoehealer who has previously posted on this thread.

He has some basic fitting advice here:

https://www.shoehealer.co.uk/Tricker_s/Useful_Information/

but is also very generous with his time via email.
