@unfanciullo Thanks, those photo's are great. Pictures on the Tricker's website aren't great, and these dark brown's are indeed darker than what my collection needs right now (also own an olive and navy pair, which almost look black without direct sunlight).

I can relate since I also just finished my post grad studies, albeit at a later age :). My recommendation would indeed to go for a more durable and versatile option; which probably means Dainite (not leather, since it doesn't work great in wet/salt). Maybe C&J is a slightly better option than Tricker's, as they are a bit more dressed up. I wouldn't go all the way to a black cap-toe, but a pair of Pembroke's for example work for both a regular class day and can even be worn with a suit for anything but the most formal occasions.

Here's some of my recent purchases from C&J. I've also been building my collection during the early years of my professional life. I wear my Tricker's the most, but see them more as suitable for casual or no-client workdays. Carlos Santos is also a great alternative, but may be a bit too formal for most days and quality-wise one step below C&J and Tricker's.

P.s. bought all of these new/practically new for less than half of the original price.

You’d think brown but personally I prefer burgundy.

Despite me not getting along with Trickers lasts I took a chance on a pair of the Kilsby Trickers for Herring in Burgundy, like you I prefer burgundy over brown as goes with a lot of dress colour options.

Fit is surprisingly good and the Vibram gumlite sole is a plus for me as most of my collection are heavy double leather or double dainite soled shoes like Church's Grafton and Shannon or Alden 974s and 975s.

Only concern I have about this shoe is that it is quite similar to the burgundy C&J shell Onslow that I have, so could be duplication.

Care to share a photo or two? I'm also still trying to decide if I want to add another pair from the Herring sale. I really like the Bourton in Chamois fudge, but there's too much overlap with my other 3 casual pairs (Robert, Richard and Bourton).

The dark brown appeared almost black on the photo here, so that's a no-no for me, which leaves the Kilsby in Burgundy. I could also use another lightweight pair. The Dainite with leather midsole and double leather soled shoes are quite heavy indeed.

Edit: Nvm, my size sold out.

Hi everyone. I am totally new to high-quality shoes shoes and I have this pair of Kilsbys (Herring version) with a Vibram Gumlite sole and no midsole, which I am pondering whether or not to return.

Someone here was very unsatisfied with the model and complained about a lack of support after 5 months.

Overall, is no midsole+Vibram Gumlite a recipe for issues further on? I intend to use these for commuting and I do like to walk everywhere. The leather is so nice and I like the look, but if these are to cause problems and be uncomfortable or deform due to the lack of a midsole then surely it would make more sense to return them and get something else?

Sorry if I sound too ignorant - I absolutely am.
I believe those shoes do indeed have a midsole. Goodyear welted shoes with foam soles like the Morflex and the Gumlite have a microfoam midsole which the welt is stitched to. The outsole is then bonded to that midsole. If you look at the toe detail photo on Herring's website the three layers are visible - welt, midsole and Gumlite outsole. @unfanciullo you can look for yourself if you still have the shoes. I'm not so sure about there being no shank, but my Morflex-soled Burford boots do not bend at all under the arch so I suspect there is a shank in there. Tricker's would comfirm.

Presumably there is a leather insole in the shoe which will form to the shape of your feet just like any other Tricker's shoe would. If you find them comfortable keep them. My Tricker's Burford with Morflex sole are very pleasant to wear. When they wear down you can have your choice of new soles, including the hard and heavy Dainite (if that's what you fancy).

double dainite might be the wrong description, but really thick rubber soles like this example of Grafton.

Have a pair of these and I find them really stiff and heavy because of the dainite sole, much prefer leather over dainite soles.

Really heavy Dainite sole? Stiff slightly, yes, but heavy? After wearing Bourtons with 3-layer leather soles, when I use a pair with Dainite I feel like I'm floating. It's true that I've never actually weighed stuff to be objective.

It’s a double sole with a Danite outer sole , the midsole is leather

yep, feels like i'm wearing bricks in comparison to leather sole version of Graftons.

this, and the Grafton leather sole version is triple, but in my experience flex more than the dainite soled shoe.

What's your size? I think I got the last pair in UK8.5. Not sure yet if I will keep as similar to pair of C&J Onslow shells that I have

I'm a UK10, but currently on a spending-stop. Already bought a new pair of C&J's and a new watch last month, so need to budget if I still want to eat.
