Been wanting a pair of tricker's for a while, and deciding between a stow and malton. Sizing is the issue for me, where I'm at 12.5D on the Brannock. Finding a 4497s last stow boot is pretty difficult in 11.5 UK, but seeing recommendations to size down a half for the Malton, although this is on the wider last.
Has anyone tried on the Malton with a "normal" width, and does the sizing recommendation work?
The Stow is actually the "normal" width version of the Malton. I have wide feet and find that I don't need to size down for the wide (6-fit) shoes or boots made on the 4497s last.

However, be it shoes or boots, "normal" or "wide", I do need to take half a size down for anything on the 4444 last (Bourtons or Keswicks, for example).

If you can, it is worth visiting the shop in Jermyn St and trying on a few pairs. They are extremely helpful and friendly in there. Coincidentally, I was just there.

I agree that you don't 'need' to size down for 6 fit, but got the impression he was asking if sizing down by half could work due to not being able to find his size. Of course going direct to Trickers is an option if you're happy to get bent over!

I think @DrJezza is in the US.
The problem is that UK11.5 seemingly doesn’t exist except as a special order. So he’s wondering if a UK11 fit 6 might work. I think the answer is a definite maybe.

He should get the waxy commander Bourtons at afinepairofshoes in UK11 for £208.

zippyh's advice is probably the best solution - look for any style on the 4444 Last in a UK size 11 - it should fit like a UK 11.5 which is the same as a US 12.5.

A 6 (wide) fit - I doubt that will make enough difference. I wear both 5 and 6 fits in 4497s in the same shoe style and I don't size down in the 6 - just wear thicker socks with the 6 fit. I did try sizing down a half size in the 6 fit at the Tricker's store and it didn't work for me - although others may have a different experience.

There's been quite a lot of discussion about Tricker's size on this thread. I'd just like to say that it's really important to choose the right size of your shoes/boots. Sorry, I know you all know this already. Tricker's are great shoes/boots. As I said on page 1700 of this thread, if I hadn't happened, by chance, to pass by the Tricker's factory shop in Northampton, and the guy who was there (someone from management) had not been there, I would not have had the advice necessary to change my idea about what size I really needed. I was used to considering my size with Tricker's as a 10 or even 10.5. Totally wrong! I came out with a pair of 9 Bourton in a gray leather. And they're perfect 15 years later. Tricker's are big in size. Don't know why. They don't seem to compare in terms of international sizing to other UK makers (for eg, C&J, etc. - maybe Sanders are similar?). So, the best bet is either to find a shop that sells Tricker's, so you can try them on, or, if you're ordering over Internet, then be prepared to send them back - and that is often a hassle - as we all know. And sometimes you have to send them back twice. More hassle!
With Tricker's, buy 1 size smaller, and be prepared to change, that's my advice.

guilty, I am in the US haha, it's rather difficult to find vendors here.
I appreciate everyones input! I might take a trip down to Division Road in Virginia sometime or just take a trip over to London sometime.

I tried to resist but finally caved in and ordered a pair of the waxy commander Stows from AFPOS. I have owned several pairs of Stows but these are right up there with my favourites. Absolutely love them. View attachment 2144081 View attachment 2144083
They’re a classic pair in my opinion: I’ve a Bourton I’m considering getting a ridgeway added but my waxed leather fetish still abides..
