So far this winter I'd have to say the all leather Grassmere with a topy have surprisingly, or maybe not, been the most secure when encountering icy sidewalks, the Commando, Brit Sole and Ridgeway fair ok but the all popular Dainite IMHO should be banned, at least as far as winter is concerned and any wet slick surface as they are life threatening.?

Trickers belt question.

I popped into the Jermyn street store to pick up a new belt. Trickers have changed their belt supplier. Does anyone know who produced their previous belts? i love the one I have and now can’t get another.

Ended up picking up the petrol chamois roughout Bourton as well. Hopefully the fit is similar or better than my color 8 CXL pair. If it is looser I may need to return or use tongue pads as I don't think their suggestion of going down 1/2 size would be great on my pinky toes. If they used the standard Bourton 4444 last instead of 2298 there would probably be less fit issues for me as my 4444 Bourtons fit great. More space for my pinky toes and the quarters have slightly more of a gap too. But it is what it is.

Gents,

do you know what happened to Tricker's Fawn polish?

It's not on their site anymore and an oil stain on my Acorn Bourton has crossed my plans to use only natural cream. Before I try Saphir's Crème Surfine Scotch (19 Fauve) which looks like a match or Saphir Pate de Luxe Yellow (79 Jaune Cire), I thought I should check with you. ☀
Or what product have you found to meet the Acorn best? I am not looking for a mirror gloss, just a good polish / cream.

I have the Tricker's Fawn polish for Acorn. It's made in France. Bet it's Fauve repackaged.

Thank you! When searching this thread I had found posts from you which hinted at Saphir's colours. I have now ordered 'Crème Surfine Scotch (19 Fauve)' and will post the result these days.

I cleaned the spot first with a careful treatment with ox-gall soap and then with an even more careful dabbing with vinegar essence and finally using Collonil Crème de Luxe (cream not wax). Though the stain has become paler (and thankfully the surrounding area not effected) it's not what I would call lovely patina. ;)

Not sure if water proofing topic has came up before. But here is my recent experience. It was biblical rain here in Vancouver a few days ago, and I took these photos after a dog walk, purposely walking through clogged storm drains and all:

.........

The storm welt kinda swelled up, soaking up water from the leather's cross section. This somehow pressurizes so the water stops seeping into the soles. ....

That's exactly what I was hoping when I inadvertently stepped in that clogged storm drain last week with my Commando soled Grassmere..but no, the down step I guessed forced the air out from under the arch of the foot and the upstroke created a temporary vacuum that acted life a syringe sucking the cold water in through the welt. :-(
