Looking for any recommendation for a first time Barbour jacket. I am traveling to NYC this weekend in search of my first Barbour jacket, but have to make sure to stop there before Crockett and Jones.
I live in Texas but travel to the North West and Europe frequently so I would like to find a jacket that will be suitable for temperatures just above freezing and higher. I was looking at the Icon Beaufort but would appreciate any other ideas.
I have pretty long arms so a few jackets that I have tried at Orvis just won’t work.

+1 for the Beaufort, but get a zip in liner/gilet if you are wearing it in freezing temps

I think what people forget is that the Beaufort is primarily a shooting jacket. The sleeves are purposely on the short length so not to get in the way while raising your gun to your shoulder. The velcro cuff is also designed to break apart when raising the gun to the shoulder so not to impede the shooters movement. The Bedale jacket is primarily a horse riding jacket so has tight cuffs to keep weather out while riding, but again, the sleeves are on the short side so not to get in the way of the reigns. By all means send it back to get the sleeves lengthen but they're on the short side for a reason.

I emailed Barbour once to see if I could have the Bedale ribbed cuffs put into a Beaufort jacket. The said I could send it to the US repair shop and they could do it.

I think it depends on how hot you run and what you are layering underneath it, but I typically don't wear my Beaufort under 40F even with the zip in liner. You also have to be aware that the zip in liner is only a vest, so your arms will only have the Beaufort and no further insulation.

@Purplelabel I was going to PM you, but that doesn't look like an option with the way you have your account set up, but I have, what I think, is an easy question for you.

Does the Sylkoil/classic version and Thornproof version of the Beaufort have distinct Tartan linings for each version, i.e., is there a model where they both share the same Tartan lining? I ask because I am looking to replace my size 36 Beaufort with a size 38 Beaufort, but already have the hood for the former, so want to make sure I get the Thornproof version again. Most listings I am seeing don't list which version they are selling.

Afraid not, the classic Beaufort (sylkoil) is the only one in olive and the classic tartan lining I believe. The regular Beaufort (thornproof) has a range of tartans which match with each colour. Black has modern tartan, sage has ancient tartan etc.

Great, so if I see a Beaufort in a green shade with the ancient Tartan lining, than it has to be the Thornproof version is what you're saying.

Correct. Only the classic Beaufort is sylkoil.

Thanks for the suggestion. Is there a difference in the Classic Beaufort vs the Icon or is it solely design aesthetics.
Also, the gray sweater you posted about 10-12 pages back. I am unfamiliar with the TO KI TO line, is that something available for purchase currently?
