I have a lightweight Sapper in XL. It was a disco'd model and I was happy to find one at the Orvis outlet for sub $200, especially since it was the exact model I wanted. In retrospect, a lg would have worked as well. I wear a 44 suit. Since the Sapper is a very casual jacket, it still works fine. The sleeves are a tad long but I roll them once so the corduroy is visible. In heavy rain, I unroll it.

I'm now in the market for a beaufort and I've been trying to decide between 44 or 42. Both seem to fit well but i didnt try with a SC. Obviously, the 42 is slimmer, which I like. Just curious, do folks typically size down with the Beaufort/ Bedale?

I did, but as mentioned above, I think it might be tougher to get a structured suit jacket/sportscoat to work underneath the one size down.

FYI, friday I tried on a Beaufort in my suit size, a 42, with a liner, a sweater, and a fleece jacket. It fit. I didn't try on a 40, but I suspect that If I weren't planning on wearing all that stuff at once, a 40 would have been just fine.

Go for the 34. I am a 38 chest and bought the 36, this jacket is cut big. I was also the manager at Barbour by David Wood in Portland so I have some experience with the line.
Good Luck!

FYI jcrew has the beacon heritage sports jacket up for presale now. They actually have a size medium in stock, but the rest are slated to ship at the end of January.

Thanks for posting this. I just tried snagging a medium one but it went sold out while I was checking out. It's now backordered to January like the others.

Does Orvis or the Barbour stores in NYC ever run sales on Beaufort, Bedale, etc? Thinking post-XMAS if it makes sense to wait...

I won't limit myself to the above two retailers - just looking for someone with legit inventory and good customer service... I have 2 Filson Weekenders - love them but I really love the look of the Bedale...
