Speaking of maintenance, does anyone know why Barbour re-proofing has gotten so expensive!?

Pre-covid, I remember Barbour offered the service for free (at least through Nordstroms). Then, they started charging $25 per re-wax in 2022. Now they want $90 to do the job! (At least through Orvis).

Why has this gotten so pricey? Is doing it at home any more efficient? Especially considering when factoring in the wax cost ($25 bucks), and time+effort?
I think it definitely worths doing at home. It's very easy and fast to do. Barbour has a good video on their website explaining the process

@Purplelabel I've been wearing Barbours for more than 40 years, mainly the very traditional Bedale, Beaufort and Border. From seing your photographs here, on IG and your YouTube channel, I acquired a Longhurst a few months ago. I just had to buy 3 in a row, just in case these can't be found anymore in the future. The Longhurst is just sooooo good. I have been wearing it almost everyday, and all the other models are put to rest. I can't thank you enough for letting me know about this. Best buy these last few years.

A pleasure, mate! They’re probably the best “modern” Barbour and it’s a shame they’re not made anymore.

Did you get English made ones?

Well, difficult to say. I mean, they look exactly like yours. They are not the white labelled ones that, from my understanding, belong to the so called Japan collection. Nevertheless, the phrase "Made in England" similar to the Bedale or Beaufort, can't be seen on any of the labels inside, which would make me think that they would have been made abroad. A bit confusing since the description of all online sellers state that this model is made in England, but I can't read that explicitly on the photographs of the labels available online, which all look like mine. Great jacket either way.

I now see on one of your IG photos that your model has clearly the Made in England phrase on the inside label, which is not the case with mine. But well, happy with them anyway.even though the UK reference is always a nice historical and cultural feature. I do not think that will make much difference on certain Barbour models made to strict manufacturing criteria.

How do you deal with humidity in waxed cotton? I was wearing my ogston the other day in San Fran around 45 degree weather (sunny day after torrential down pour the night before) It was brisk enough to walk about 10 mins outdoors. My goodness it was wet inside the jacket. Literally no evaporation escaped my jacket. After getting to my destination I took off the thing only to expose my sweat soaked shirt in front of my colleagues (everywhere… arms chest back the whole shirt ). Worse, the jacket didn’t dry enough by the time my meetings were done (2 hours). Having no choice I put it on again. Only this time, the dampness of the jacket was making me shiver inside.

By mid day it was into the high 50’s and I was the only person walking around with a heavy jacket and still being cold.

The next day, I got smart and wore a wool jacket instead. No issues. I wondered what it would have been like if it really rained….

Let me know if anyone want to buy my Rustic Ogston in Large.

The problem is with the sleeve lining in the Ogston which is polyester. Not breathable. It's the same with the Ashby.

I already changed my lining from the original cheap polyester to cupro with my tailor (thanks to Styleforum). But that didn’t help. I was literally soaked. And I’m not a sweaty guy usually.

I found out the reason why my jacket became a poncho that morning when I wore it. It was, because the night before, I wore it in a very damp weather with just a hint of drizzle which essentially made my cotton jacket soak up all the humidity and dampness (but not wet). Without drying out the jacket completely I wore the damp jacket again the next morning.

Note to self: don't wear the jacket two days in a row when things are damp.
Additional note: maybe I won't rewax when the jacket loses the original wax. Perhaps I'll just use the chemical DWR coating instead and brave the cancer risk...

Under the armpits there are 3 eyelets which dont actually go through the jacket to let it breathe like on the Bedales and Beaufort. Maybe worth taking it to a shop and getting new eyelets holes that are slightly larger and also go through the jacket. should be a 10 min job.

fantastic jacket, thats the second gen and 180 more than what I paid for English made original gen.

I'd still pay that asking price anyway.

Recently got a good deal on a makeup I was particularly keen on. A trooper jacket in black made with their "skyoil." However, this thing is filthy. Looks like it was went through a war zone. After multiple tub soaks in cold water its still bleeding brown. Looks a tiny bit better but its still rough. Recs on how to deep clean this thing so it looks black again? Don't care if I have to rewax it after.
