I had a mid-grey glen plaid odd trouser made up with suspender buttons, with no belt loops. This already seems a bit odd, sure.

Now that I've worn it a few times, I've decided that I don't want to bother with suspenders all the time. Without belt loops, my only option to keep the trousers at my waist would be to add side tabs. Is this a good idea?

Theoretically if I never take my jacket off no one will know, but what if I do? Should side tabs never be shown?

Even further complicating the situation is that I don't have any more of the fabric to make the tabs, though I feel I can find a similar fabric. The tab is a fairly small strip of fabric for anyone to notice the difference.

You could always get another material to contrast on purpose. I don't think it really matters if side tabs are shown or not. Good luck not taking your jacket off with Texas weather in the coming weeks and months.

Glove leather might work.

leather is a good idea.
also if you can find a grey fabric to match the grey in the plaid.
the waist on suspender trousers are looser than belted trousers.
the side tabs will not take up the excess very well.
you will need to have the trouser waist taken in.
