Somewhat along the lines of LK's thread from Shanghai, here is the Siklos castle, pinning one end of the soon-to-be-famed Villany-Siklos wine road. The castle dates back to the mid 13th century, was not able to hold off the Turks, and now has quite the eclectic collection. Promised at the front gate, admission ~2 euros:
"Golves" is some clever Hungarish for "gloves," but we'll get to that. First up were the torture rooms, which did not make for good pictures thanks to the throngs of French teenagers laughing at the stocks. Next was the wax museum:
and the torture + wax museum:
Upstairs was the "golve" exhibition:
And upstairs from there, the modern art museum...all the arts, apparently
There was a chapel that I did not capture on digital film, but it's 700 years old and still active. Across the courtyard, which was furnished with two stages for performance, was a small natural history photographic exhibit, and then the hunting room:
On the way out, there is a rather convincing monument to asparagus:
The white asparagus in the region is quite good, but has no real historical or contemporary stature. You be the judge.
