Observation of Alden Size Differences

I ordered a pair of Captoe shoes in 9.5D and 10D. Does anyone know why the heels on the 9.5D are larger? They extend 3/4" further into the shoe than the 10 D pair.

The heels may be ground/shaped to size by hand and by eye.

That would make sense. I have an older third pair, and they are also different.

It doesn't look odd or bad, its just noticeable when you have a couple pair.

Here is a picture of the 9.5 D

Here is a picture of the 10 D. Notice how the heel is smaller? Also, is something wrong with the leather?

Also, am I OCD, or should i return them because of this nick in the leather?
