I may go to a party tomorrow night that has a 50 Shades of Grey theme. Here is the description of the attire on the website:

Gentlemen: Dress like a billionaire and channel Christian Grey's steely demeanor in a sharp, gray suit. Or go for cool classic in a black tux, but be sure to don a gray tie or bow tie--just don't expect those knots to keep tight all night. Then feel free to throw a smoldering gaze toward your minx of choice amid a sea of gray balloons and dim lighting. Decorative handcuffs (for play) will be provided.

A bunch of my guy friends want to go (we are all early 30's). I don't own a grey tie and don't want to purchase one. I do have a dark grey suit. Elsewhere on the website it says guys should be sure to "rock a grey tie." So will a grey suit + navy tie be fine?

This is basically your only chance to wear a dog collar in public. You don't really want a career in politics, anyway.

But yeah, that somewhat ridiculous dress code allows for a gray suit with whatever dark tie you want, to my reading. Pull the tie off after one drink, if you want.

Turnbull and Asser sell grey ties in their classics collection, I have one, it's great, go get one.
