Hi All,

I have been invited to a New Year Eve event, which has been billed by the host as "Optional Black Tie". I have spoken to the host and he says that he merely "wants people to make a bit of effort and not wear the usual jeans". Many people will turn up in jeans and T-shirt though, some will turn up in full black tie. I want to pitch in towards the smart end of the spectrum but i'm not personally a fan of black tie and want to do something a smidgen different. I'm an individual after all.

I have a charcoal grey suit that I was planning to wear, but what to wear with it? I want to look smart but not office-y, if that makes sense? Something that won't look too out of place in a venue with a few people wearing tuxedos but with a slight casual edge.

Any thoughts?

“Formalize” your grey suit over a white shirt with French cuffs and a dark necktie. Add a white silk pocket square and spit shine your black Oxfords. Wrap a white silk scarf around your neck and no one will think you just left the office.
