NYC Market Meet-Up Jan. 21-24?

Maybe trying to plan a meet-up while many of the key people are in Florence is not the best idea, but let’s give it a shot anyway.

Since so many Styleforum members are in the industry and are going to be in New York around the 21st-24th of this month, why don’t we all get together and have a drink or dinner or something.

If the recent GQ article on menswear blogging is anything to go by; Styleforum is the great connector in the men’s clothing world, bringing together designers, retailers, media, hobbyists, and customers all in one place. Why can’t it do that in the real word too?

What do you think? Is there a Manhattan resident willing to find a location or a showroom that would be kind enough to host?

If that happened, my advice would be to short dub monk and wristraff stocks, and write the word "curate" on a piece of acid-free paper and store it folded in a dark place.

Though probably not all targets (or bloggers for that matter); I suspect your good friend Mr. Sartoria is unlikely to make an appearance. One only gets busier once one “retires”?

I think so. Definitely one way or the other, if they did not start out in the business, they got in the business since or maybe even because of joining Styleforum. Take some of our most trusted and prolific members: Despos (Bespoke Tailor), Jefferyd (in tailoring on the wholesale side), Will (Blogger and retailer), yfyf (retail), edmorel (manufacturing and retail), gshen (manufacturing and retail), Phat Guido (Blogger) even Mr. Poker if you count eBay, and many many more who just lurk.

I wouldn't consider 98% of those people to be considered a part of "the industry".

Ok….Then who do you consider to be in the industry? What is your definition? Because 2-3 people on that list will be traveling to New York specifically to go to that trade shows and another 2-3 people would go if NYC was closer to them and are in Italy at Pitti right now. Or we can all get together between 21st and the 24th, see who shows up and have the conversation in person. (Sort of the point of my suggestion in the first place.)

dude.......it's not that serious. SF is not a corporation.........we are all here voluntarily - just like those who decide to meet you for a drink or two will be doing so voluntarily.

You're right. It's never a good idea to meet your heroes, it's usually a disappointment.

I was surprised to bump into Vox at Boston Logan airport. He was running the shoe shine stand. He was understandably a bit embarrassed and tried to play it off acting all incognito but he gave himself away by the way he scowled at me while he was applying edge dressing to my Allen Edmonds seconds.
