I believe a combination of handstitching and gy machine. No glue unless you're having topys put on.

Channeled soles, but not sure if they can do a closed channel.

I'm sure your website has this info., but what is the turn-around time?

My turnaround time for a resole was 1 week.

I had B Nelson resole a pair of Grenson Masterpiece chelsea boots with Rendenbach soles and hidden-channel stitching. Here is a pic:



As you can see, I think they did an excellent job on the channeling. The edge of the flap covering the channel is not visible anywhere. The only real difference that I noticed between the original soles and the Rendenbach replacements is that the edges of the original soles were rounded through the waist of the sole making the boots look a bit sleeker. The replacement sole edges are square all the way around. I might have asked them to do a different nail pattern on the heel, too, but neither of those differences are a big deal, almost certainly not worth the cost differential between B Nelson and sending them back to the Northampton factory. I'm curious to see how the new soles will wear as I was a little disappointed with how quickly I wore through the original soles.

wow, that looks rather good. is the closed channel treatment extra, or standard? it's got to cost more, but it certainly beats shelling out 150-$200 to send them to england.

Both the Rendenbach soles and the closed channel stitching were extra. The total was about $150, but based on prices I've heard recently and with shipping to and from the UK, I think you're looking at between $300 and $400 to have it done at the factory.

Which starts to make resoling seem like a foolish expense.

I've been meaning to post these for some time now and keep forgetting. Here are some pictures of a recent "basic" recrafting of a pair of Alden cap toes that I sent to B. Nelson. Total cost including heels, soles, relasting on what they say is an appropriate last for the shoe you send them, trees, bags and shipping in both directions was $95.00. These shoes were pulling away from the heel and I'm uncertain whether they replaced the welt or simply reattached it but the cost included whatever was needed to make it right. The uppers were also refinished. Nicely done channeled stitching. I wish I had gone with the upgraded heel, but I wanted to see what the basic package got you. If you don't need the bags and trees its $75. Money well spent in my book. BTW, these shoes were held hostage by the State of New York for a few days while B. Nelson worked out some tax problems. During that time Nick from B. Nelson took the time to message me at least three times to let me know the shops status and how it would effect returning my shoes. They couldn't have been better to deal with.

yeah, i think EG is in that range - one of the reasons why i don't wear mine all that often.

I had the topy and heel on my Sutor chukkas replaced by B. Nelson. These are not treatedly lightly, mostly worn on foul weather days. I have had them for around two and a half years.

They also replaced the heel and a part of the toe on this pair of Stuart's Choice:

Heel and toe on two pairs, plus topys on those chukkas was $130 total, IIRC.
