Nudie's dry denim, weight and durability

I was looking at some Nudie jeans recently, and I was pretty surprised at how they felt. From what I'd read (or imagined reading, perhaps) I expected them to be much sturdier. They were pretty thin and light. Putting them on, they felt more like paper than iron. My dry Helmut Langs use much more substantial denim, it seems. Or am I just imagining things?

Also, regardless of weight what's the current consensus on dry Nudie durability? I figure that unlike my HL's or APC's I might not want them forever - damn back pocket stitching - but I don't like to spend money on ephemeral things, either.

You can always remove the stitching, but I kind of like having a pair of slightly louder jeans. As far as the durability, I'm far from a denim expert, but I think their raw jeans in particular are quite durable.

I think it depends. The Japanese dry denim found in the RRDS and SSDS (and I think BBDS) is quite rigid and heavy, but the dry denim found in the Bootcut OLA and some others is less so, being much softer and thinner. I would say in general, though, that Nudie's Japanese denim is a bit less stiff than APC, but not soft and flimsy. I have no experience with HL raw denim.

I have APC, HL as well as Nudie dry denim. The HL denim feels just a tad thicker, and the APC a bit thinner, than my Nudie RRDS, but this is probably attributed to the heavier denim weight. I have 2 pairs of dry Nudies, and they both have held up well over the past 18 months. The denim is still strong and dark (they haven't been washed yet after the first wash). Keep in mind, I don't do vigorous physical activities while wearing them, unlike the skaters and footballers on this forum. They are also two of the ten or so pairs I rotate through regularly. I expect the Nudies to last for several years, if not a decade or longer. YMMV depending on how often you wear them and what you do while wearing them. Personally, I don't have any reservations as to their quality or durability. Oh yeah, I removed the pocket stitching from both pairs easily with a stitch picker (about 2 dollars at Target).

Did you try on Selvedge ones? Apparently they are made from completely different denim to non-selvedge
