Last night a friend was in a car wreck. He's in the hospital, but his wife says they've already talked to her about organ donation.

I asked here about where to get my next suit made, now it looks like I need to buy something off the rack.

The last suit I bought off the rack was a HSM about twenty years ago.

Who makes the good OTR suits now? I've got all the major department stores, and I'm sure there must be some haberdasheries, too.

Thanks.

So sorry to hear this. Where do you live (proximity to a city is helpful) and what is your budget?

St. Louis. I'm sitting about a half mile from the Gateway Arch right now.

Budget: dollar...unknown. It's been a long time since I bought a suit from a store. The important thing is that it's well constructed, so that I can have it completely altered eventually and either wear it or hand it off to my son. Otherwise I'll just go to one of those Mens Wearhouse places and spend $150 and toss it afterwards. But if I'm going to keep this thing, it has to be a real suit. Well constructed, good stitching, fabric, etc. I couldn't care less about the brand.

The real budget is time--I'd like to have it in my hands about an hour after I eat lunch so I can drop it off to get altered. I don't know how much time I have until I need it. Ideally never, but worst case I might need it as early as Wednesday, I suspect.

found this very old thread on St. Louis here

Mister Guy, Woody's, and Sam Cavato from that thread are all still around, it seems, and carry reputable ready-to-wear tailoring brands. Those in particular that I'd suggest you look at would be:

Samuelsohn (Woody's and Mister Guy)
Canali (Sam Cavato and Mister Guy)

Coppley (Woody's) is decent and at a lower price point than others above - probably similar in quality to your HSM suit.

Brioni, Ravazzolo (Sam Cavato), and Castagnia (Mister Guy) are excellent but will be significantly more expensive.

Fit is much more important than 'quality'. A suit that fits you well (with minor alterations) is always better than a "better" suit that fits you poorly.
