Notes management systems

Does anyone here use any notes management systems that they would recommend? I think most of them are software-based. Nothing beats the simplicity of hand-written notes, but they generally suffer from poor search and organizational capabilities. I've looked at Microsoft's OneNote and Evernote (www.evernote.com) and both have some pretty cool features. They both allow you to type or scan notes of any variety and everything, even the text inside scanned images, is indexed for easy searching, retrieval, and organization. I'll probably need to adopt something like this in order to have quick and compact access to a broad range of notes on my laptop, but I'd be interested in other suggestions especially as I am not excited about having to scan all the handwritten or printed notes that I'll have.

You could use a tablet pc with Onenote, thereby foregoing the scanning issue.

The tablet PC/OneNote package is appealing, but I'd really rather not shell out $1500 for a tablet PC. Also, I'd still have to scan notes that I didn't produce (handouts, slides, charts, etc).

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
