Hey All,

I do a fair amount of international travel for work and am always on the lookout for stores and brands that aren't sold in the US to stock up before I get back on the plane. Living in NYC, there's not much to want for, but I know there are things I'm missing when I'm in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Paris, London, etc. I never have that much time to myself so unfortunately I rarely stumble into anything just walking around the city.

When you all travel what are the destination stores you go to that you can't find stateside?

Real Italian Sausage.

I smuggled it over once. But, usually, they take it from me. Idiots. :<

Ha, well, was thinking more on the clothes front - like socks from Gamarelli's in Rome or shoes at Corthay in Paris.

Uniqlo socks in wonderful primary colors. They are a great deal in HK. Not sure if they sell them in the NYC store, which I haven't visited since it opened.

You can get _almost_ anything you want in the US. Arnys in Paris has interesting stuff and most of their line (apart from some jackets and ties) is not sold in the US. Hilditch & Key Paris and Charvet have incredible cashmere-silk neckerchieves in a variety of prints. Budd's RTW shirts and their formal accessories are excellent and not sold outside of Jermyn Street. Volvic Citron is not sold in the US and really really good, as is the Andre fresh blood orange juice in Paris. Gallo's patterned socks are hard to find in the US. Charvet's robes and smoking jackets may be the best still around, and are only available in Paris and maybe at Bergdorf. There are quite a few makers of leather goods to order in Paris who are not sold elsewhere, by and large -- Duret, Ducas, Camille Fournet, Jacques Ferrand, Serge Amoruso, etc.

French chocolate is my favorite, but I submit that most areas of the world have decent chocolatiers. Still, Michel Chaudun or Patrick Roger (no, not the last guy tried for capital murder in France) make amazing chocolates, and Jean-Charles Rochoux makes chocolate busts of Moliere and others, as well as a ripped chocolate torso.

London: Cordings of Piccadilly, Brora, Barbour outerwear that seldom gets exported
Brazil: Havaiana (yr girlfriend/wife will initially say "flip-flops?!?" however will wear them out)
Joburg or Cape Town: Cape Union Mart khakis, the kind with flap rear pockets that scream to be pared with a Weatherby magnum. Also, vanilla paste, dozens of great wines they consume versus exporting
Oz: R.M. Williams gear (moleskins & paddock boots), dozens of great wines they consume versus exporting
Spain: Camiseria Burgos
Argentina: Sastreria Cheverny, dozens of great Malbecs....
Russia: Limited number of Armenian brandies they consume.
Germany: Cheaper prices on Rimowa luggage, Footprints

There are still some countries that do fantastic artisanal knitwear and tchotchke for great gifts.

When next in Milan, try shopping at G Lorenzi. It's a great store for mens accessories
