I'm about to head to HK for a few years. Banking, so will be suit each day. Like to go for some tailored suits. I've read a lot about places from this site. I'm not interested in cheap touristy stuff, but don't want to spend more than $1K for a suit.

I came across two not found on the site when I was just wondering the streets.

Ying Tai Ltd. in The Galleria on Queen's Rd in Central. They do tours in the US. $7K to start.

August Custom Tailors in LL Hong Kong Station in Central. They don't do tours, very local, all referrals. $6.5K to start.

Questions:
1) Anyone had experience with these folks?
2) What do you guys think of entry level material? I don't care about brand name cloth that much. I just want a good fit.
3) Are entry materials in these custom shops better than what you'd get from Macy's suits?
4) Can you recommend any place in the $4000-$5000 HKD range that you think is good on quality and workmanship?

Many thanks my friends.

Go find Peter Lee. Fully canvassed suits from HK$5.5k.

He's at Far East Mansion in Tsim Sha Tsui.

Plenty of threads about HK tailors if you do a quick search.

Great! More shops like this please... reasonable price with good reference. Why do you like Mike Lee and to what others do you compare Mike Lee?

I found lots of links on HK tailor of course, but non on these two I included. Appreciate more references if others have them...

Can you get your own fabrics? If yes, then CMT prices would make your suit alot cheaper.

Most entry fabrics seem to be VBC which is defintely better than Macys.

Another new poster - Were you to trouble to a little research here you would find many recommendations for

WW Chan on Nathan Road
Gordon Yao at the Royal Garden Hotel on Mody Road
Y William Yu on Mody Road.

These three come highly commended by members. Try this other firm by all means but they are unknowns here - and so are you so we will be unable to compare your views even if yo do.

I think the above 3 tailors are out of his price range.

Definitely. Chan will set him back at least twice his budget.

And honestly, there's quite a big contingent here who frequent HK tailors so it's pretty comprehensive.

If you haven't read about it here either a) it's not worth mentioning b) nobody's used it before
