Not Colour Coordinating Sunnies: How Big a Fashion Faux Par?

I just picked-up a very nice pair of (prescription) Wayfarers with black frames & green lenses and I love them.

My wardrobe is usually based on black (leather shoes & belt, maybe jeans/pants or sports coat in black) and another colour - and I'm sure the new sunnies will go great.

However, I recently ordered my first brown tweed sports coat, and picked-up some brown shoes and some tan(ish) trousers in an attempt to bring in some new colours to my wardrobe this winter.

Now, I am not planning on buying more sunglasses this year, but I am curious if mixing black-frame sunnies with brown shoes & belt, etc. is a big no-no? To what extent does everyone colour-coordinate their eyewear?

I think eye wear is one of the places you shouldn't necessarily color coordinate. You should wear sunglasses because it's sunny, and look cool as a side effect. If you wear them for the main purpose of looking cool, it tends to have the opposite effect.

First: please never call them "sunnies" in public. Or private. Or in your head. Sunglasses.

Second: I think it's something people won't care about much if you don't, but if you do can be a really nice touch that brings everything together. Guys don't necessarily have a lot of stuff to work with so if you could get some tortoise backups I'd do it.

This cannot be emphasized enough. I feel like a very small man is leaning out from my monitor and slapping me whenever I read this thread title.

It is more important that the frame colour matches your complexion and hair colouring in my opinion. The wrong colour frames will wash you out. If the frame style is otherwise appropriate for the style of clothes you are wearing I would not worry about matching the colour of your clothes.
