Normal to wear through Allen Edmonds soles in 18 months?

Have a pair Strands and I love them. Wear them on average 4 days per week, walking to the subway and back for work (.5 miles each way), and then around in a carpeted office. Wear occasionally on weekends.

I've had then for a little less than 18 months and I've already worn through the rubber heel section, and a small hole has developed in the forefoot, exposing the cork base (i.e. the leather sole has worn through.)

Is this normal, or were the shoes defective? I didn't think I'd need a recrafting in less than 2 years.

Thoughts?

If you are heavy build, then yes.

I had a pair of Park Aves resoled after about 18 months. I wore them about twice a week, but walked A LOT. I live in NYC - where the sidewalks are especially harsh on leather soles.

My soles didn't wear through, but the toes did and wore out the stitching. If I had toe taps on them, they would have lasted a lot longer, but never bothered to put them on those shoes.

I'm 6'0" and weigh 145lbs, so... no.

Do people think the wear issue is something worth bringing up with customer service? I don't want to come across as a jerk, but if the soles are supposed to last longer, I'd like some acknowledgement/recompense from them on the issue.

It would not seem unreasonable given they are worn 4+ days a week. I suggest you purchase at least one other shoe you so you can rest them for at least 24 hrs; they will last much longer.

I would think about it this way. Most people alternate between at least 2-3 pairs of shoes, so it would take them 2-3 times as long to wear through the soles. Would it seem unreasonable to have to resole after 3-4.5 years? Not really. You just wear those shoes a lot.

You've worn those shoes all day more than 300 times? And you wonder if they're defective?

Mine haven't worn that quickly, but it's possible. That doesn't seem completely unreasonable for that type of heavy use. If you drag your feet a bit, that definitely wouldn't help.

4 days a week for 18 months. Yes, they should be worn out.

Perhaps you should get several pairs and rotate them.

That is wildly excessive wear. Firstly, you need to rotate shoes, so have at LEAST three pairs. Secondly, if you have worn a hole through the leather you have waited far too long to have them resoled. Get them fixed up pronto, and go buy more shoes. If you know your exact AE size, use eBay.

Normal wear. Congrats, I actually feel a sense of accomplishment when I send shoes for resoling (getting my "resole Goodyear-welted shoes" money's worth); however, I wear the same shoes much less frequency but I put on 3+ miles each wear.
