Normal jeans: Do they shrink?

Sorry to take a moment away from discussions about fancy raw jeans (yeah, I'll get there someday).

I just wanted to know what the deal is with "normal" jeans (Levis, Gap, etc). When I'm buying them in the store, should I get the perfect fit, or should I go for something smaller/larger? This goes both for waist and leg measurements.

Thanks.

I have been wearing Levis 501 for over 20 years and they stay the same, it is the human body that changes.

Get your true waist size for pre-shrunk jeans. If you wash them hot or toss them in the dryer for a while they'll shrink, but it'll be temporary and barely noticable.

I'd be more concerned with stretching. I have some prewashed pairs that have stretched out two sizes. It can be hard to tell sometimes.

Now that I think of it my cheap jeans have been feeling pretty baggy recently...

I have to agree: my prewashed Diesels are a 31-32 after I wash them, but stretch out one or two sizes almost instantly. The same goes for pretty much all of my prewashed denim, although each one stretches out differently.

With preshrunk jeans I always go with a perfect fit. All jeans stretch out in the waist, but I wash 'normal' jeans much more often than I would a pair of raw jeans I'm breaking in. After washing they almost always shrink back to their original size.
