Noob question: "Commando" sole much help as rain protection?

I'm thinking of getting a pair of Alden shell cordovan boots to wear at work, usually with suits, sometimes with a blazer and slacks. My workplace is trending away from suits, and so I'm not as concerned that it would be too casual for work (I've seen that thread, by the way). But I'm wondering whether the "commando" sole would do me much good in the one application where I might need it--as something to wear outside when there is light rain.

Does the Commando sole help much with rain? Or since it's just stitched on top of leather, does it not give your shoes much additional protection?

Thanks!

Well it's not really the soles that are affected by rain anyway, it's the uppers, so I doubt commando soles will make any difference. The effect of rain on shoes is exaggerated anyway though, I wear my shoes in the rain all the time and they're perfectly fine.

The Commando soles will keep you from slipping on slick, wet surfaces, a not-inconsiderable virtue. Walking considerable distances with leather soles that have become wet will shorten the life of the soles by a good deal. I think Commando soles (or their equivalents, e.g., Dainite) make a sensible choice for footgear to be used in wet weather.
