Short answer:

No, it isn't.
To be honest overmatching is bad in most cases...

Most studs are basic shapes in plain metals, occasionally onyx or MOP. They will 'match' most cufflinks or contrast rather nicely. I only use the whole set as such when I'm wearing full traditional formal, otherwise cufflinks and braces are where you can have a bit of fun!

As I understand it, generally studs are either Onyx or MOP. The cufflinks are supposed to be silver. I suppose that if your studs were fringed in gold rather than silver, you might want gold cufflinks as well.

eg: standard onyx studs ... http://www.thomaspink.com/fcp/produc...-Black-X4/4942

eg silver cufflinks to 'match' ... http://www.ctshirts.co.uk/p/rwgo/pr...=Relevance&page=1&back=False&canned=&browse=Y

(Note that the cufflinks are two-sided, so there isn't a 'front' and 'back')

... or you can try to 'match' onyx or MOP in your cufflinks as well; e.g.: http://www.ctshirts.co.uk/p/rwgo/pr...=Relevance&page=1&back=False&canned=&browse=Y
