Any thoughts on maintaining oxblood/cordovan shoes-- either calf or shell-- without using the classic Kiwi polish? In the more beeswax-oriented family, are there flavors of Saphir or Cordonnerie Anglaise that are equally well able to maintain the classic color (or darken a Burgundy hue)? Some I've seen look much more purple than the full-blown oxblood.

Saphir's oxblood is called claret in English, I think. It's a bit redder, and very gorgeous. After using saphir I wouldnt put kiwi on my shoes—not because its necessarily bad, but I love the smell of saphir and kiwi gives me a headache.
