Noisy boots...DIY sole repair

Hi everyone...I'm relatively new to the forums here and have done some searching for an amswer to a shoe repair question without much luck. I have a pair of well-worn boots that the heel has worn down to the point where a loud clicking sound has developed when I walk on hard surfaces. They are still very comfortable but the sound is starting to annoy me more and more. It's to the point that it sounds like I'm wearing high heels.

I would rather not pay to have them totally resoled, as I did not pay much for them in the first place. Rather, something along the lines of replacing the rubber tread on the sole...or is there a simpler solution that I am missing. I don't know a whole lot about shoe repair so I would be open to any suggestions. Even a short term solution would be welcome.

Thanks...

Hi, - Z - welcome to the forum.

If the problem is with the heel, than only the heel 'top lift' will need replacing. The worn-down top layer gets removed and a new one, either leather with rubber corner or all rubber, gets put on.

Talk to a qualified shoe repairer and ask for the price, before you commission the work.

I recently bought a pair of shoes that's like this. It's annoying just like he said. I sound like a woman stomping down the hallway at work.

Thanks bengal....any idea on how much that kind of repair typically costs? I've never had to have a pair of shoes repaired before and am a little unsure what I am looking at...

From my experience, heel replacements and service usually run me about $15-20 a pair.

Edit: Specifically, by heel replacement I mean top lift replacement.

I suppose, prices depend on where you live. You'll pay more in Manhattan than in rural Idaho, but I guess in Hanoi it's even cheaper.

Here is the site of a Japanese shoe repairer. It shows you the various components:
