No rear pockets on bespoke pants: thoughts?

I'm currently in the process of having a suit made for me; my tailor wants to make the pants without rear pockets.

I understand the rationale: I don't use those pockets anyway. And typically, I'm all for eliminating the unnecessary, but I'm afraid that the lack of pockets will be unflattering. Without the pocket slits, the seat of the pants becoems a large, uninterrupted expanse.

Thoughts?

Your tailor makes my pants without back pockets. I never even think about them not being there, but overall I guess it is a bit more comfortable without the pocket bags. I have had Ambrosi make my most recent pairs without back pockets.

My rule of thumb with all things related to style is "when in doubt, trust Mariano".

I think that mens trousers look off w/o pockets or at least a pocket. I'd keep them for that reason alone.

I also use the pockets for train tickets and the $4-12 I have on me at any given time.

Who cares?

I hardly ever use the pockets but I don't give this much thought. If a tailor has a preference, I go with it. If he asks, I give an answer, but I doubt it is consistent from time to time. I am sure I have all combinations of pockets, no pockets, cut through buttons, no buttons and I haven't a clue which one is on which pair. This is the second post on this topic i am responding to today, and I still have no idea what configuration I have on the trousers I am wearing now. And to be contrary, I will not even check.

What are you going to do when he stops being the closer for the Yanks?

This reminds me of the episode of Office Space where Michael thrifted a women's suit by accident. No rear pockets.

No fears of it looking 'feminine' or 'masculine'. But who wants a bigger-looking ass?

This is generally my approach to things. He doesn't have rear pockets on some of his own pants; so at the very least, he puts his money where his mouth is.

My suit pants don't have rear pockets either, but I'd never realized that until I read your post. I never use them, almost always have my coat on anyway, and they'd look weird with the high back.

The only thing I like less than having no pockets would be having only one pocket. That is of course based purely on looks. I feel the pockets create a break visually that makes one's ass look better than without. I also agree that it is a bit too feminine without pockets, especially if it's a trouser that you mean to wear with a belt.

This may be what was in my mind.

Those who have no back pockets on your pants, don't take this the wrong way, but can you post pics?

What the hell's the point of omitting the rear pockets?

It'll make your ass look bigger, so it's not to look sleek, and if it's about comfort, then you really need to toughen up there princess. ;-)

In my mind's eye, I think it would make me look like an extra from A Clockwork Orange, but then again I'm sure it would look great on you. ;-)

I'm guessing this is your wedding suit. What did you decide on? (or is it in that other thread that I can't seem to find right now...)

Notch-lapel, single-button, side vent, and shirt shoulders. The cloth is charcoal with a very fine herringbone pattern, creating subtle 1/2 cm shadow stripes. I *think* it's Harrisons, but I never really know who makes the cloths I pick.
