No love for Brioni suits on SF

They're structured, which is a bit out at the moment.

I have some suits and jackets from Brioni. They are all the Nomentano model, which fits me really well off-the-rack, usually just requiring finishing the sleeves. However, now that I have access to bespoke, I stopped buying Brioni. When Brioni first opened as a tailoring atelier, their prices were much less than Savile Row (less than 1/2, IIRC). Now, though, they cost just as much off-the-rack.
I imagine many people on the forum would say that you are better off going bespoke at that price. While Brioni does have a good MTM program, you will end up paying more for that than you would for high-end bespoke.

For me cost is the problem for pretty much all Brioni items. I have seen jackets here in Tokyo for more than $4k. Shirts for $1k plus. Who in their right minds would pay that when they could get a bespoke equivalent for the same price or less, unless they were desperate to have Brioni on the label?

I used to part my $$$ with the Brioni MTM program.. I was lucky that I did not have to pay more than the OTR $$$.

I know am on a higher salary bracket than I was back then & I still won't even think about Brioni..

Nice fabrics but for teh $$$.. Meh!

But I still always preferred the Carusso OTR block on me & the Corneliani MTM was also very good.

I now have a few of them left & every time I put one on.. All I see is SHOULDERS..

But why must it be Brioni? Let me ask a question: what is it that you see in Brioni that you wouldn't get from a quality bespoke tailor?

Exactly. I think the same can be said of Kiton, which IMHO, is extremely overrated.
That said, I think Brioni is a good option if you do not have local access to bespoke and do not have the time to take trips for fittings. That was why I bought Brioni in the past.
Also, there could be the case where someone wanted the Brioni look, but the only tailors they had access to worked in the English or American style. In that situation, I think Brioni would be a good option.

I didn't see this before I posted. If someone really wanted the structured Roman power suit look, would you send him to Anderson and Sheppard or Rubinacci? Of course not. Brioni does make sense if you do not have access to a bespoke tailor who works in that style and you want that specific look. More generally speaking though, I agree that at that price going bespoke is the better option.

I know what you mean! I occasionally wear one of my suits for a meeting. Those shoulders really do say F U to everyone else in the room

They are definitely well made, though there is not as much handwork as there would be in many bespoke suits, or Oxxford, for that matter. Certainly a step above Corneliani and Zegna in construction, and at lease as well made as Kiton.

I think I'm probably the source of love for brioni on this forum, along with a few others maybe. I like the nomentano because it's something a little different in shape and construction for brioni (shoulders and the stitching on the chest under the lapels), but I like the Millenio the best-- they did a special model for bergdorf goodman in this model, my only brioni MTM suit. It has very subtle shoulders yet is still structured. I've always liked the brand and that it was well made, and didn't hurt that bond wore the label from Goldeneye thu Casino Royale-- allowing people to see what the suits actually look like (as opposed to donald trump's ill-fitting brionis....)

Not enough handwork for me.
