If any of you Size 12s are interested in a pair of black Mackays worn approximately 20 times or so, pm me.

I don't even think their antiquing is any nicer than what one finds on, for example, the Merald 2.

I've not noticed my EG's creasing any more or less than other top-tier shoes (Tramezza, Weston, Ludwig Reiter, Materna, Lattanzi, PS Grenson Masterpiece, C&J, Mantellassi, Gravati, Harris, etc.) but I also don't wear any pair of shoes very frequently. (Less than once a month, except for athletic shoes.) I'm sure all of them crease less than, say, Berlutis. Perhaps the differences are because of foot shape or other things.

I will agree that EG shoes are overhyped on the fora, but I like the EG antiquing better than that on my Tramezzas, including my Merald 2 model. I've actually antiqued my Merald 2 model myself by polishing the toe cap and heel counters more frequently using darker polish.

For the price, I certainly think Tramezzas are a much better value than EG, though, and now that I own a few pairs of Mantellassi shoes, I think the construction of the high-end Mantellassis may be on a par with EG.

Fair enough about the antiquing (I like it more subtle than others, I guess), but unfortunately it looks like the value equation is changing; new Tramezzas are creeping up to the $1000 level. Sucks to be us, I guess.

Assuming styling is equal, I wouldn't put EG on the same plane as top-end Mantellassi...

Given that they're all well-constructed, I think at that level it's much more about preference than superiority. I have a pair of Tramezzas, which I like a lot. But I have yet to find a last I like as much, and that fits me as perfectly, as the 888. So I prefer my MacKays to my Tramezzas but could certainly understand why someone else might flip-flop them.
