"No Break" Chinos/Flood Length: Cool or Fool?

Hi--

I recently bought a higher-end pair of slim chinos sight-unseen from the popular auction site, and the inseam is disappointingly shorter than I'd anticipated. When I try them on with a pair of ankle boots/Beatle boots, they actually don't look half bad--kind of a mod look, reminding me of the 1960s Sam & Dave 'Soul Men' record where they are wearing peg-leg trousers with the bottom hem above the top edge of their boots. My 17-yr-old daughter says they look cool; my wife thinks it's ridic. A quick check online shows that the "flood" look is in style when wearing brogues sockless--I'm not that guy, however. This also seems to be a collegiate look, and while I'm 6' and a trim 180 lbs, I am in my mid-40s.

May I know your regarded opinions on wearing chinos with a just-below-the-ankle break for office casual applications?

Thanks.

The no socks look is a pretty specific one, which if you're not very fashion forward to begin with will probably look awkward on you (and stand out glaringly from your usual style) especially at the office.

You may get away with them with the boots, but that's about it. We have guys around my office (engineering company) with too-short chinos, and they just look too short. Some of them wear Under Armour long-sleeve t-shirts at the same time, so there is no danger of them being mistaken for being on-trend.
