I am having difficulty picking a resort/destination for a low-impact vacation in early August. My criteria (in no particular order) are as follows:

1. 4/5 star accommodations
2. <5 hours travel time from NJ (direct flight from EWR airport)
3. Moderate climate (i.e., <95 deg F, non-rainy season)
4. Good food
5. Not too expensive (e.g., Necker Island)
6. Good beach or pool

Vacation will be low-impact, so sightseeing, historical landmarks, night life are unimportant.

Some places I've considered but passed on include: Four Seasons in Nevis (long travel time requirement), One and Only in Bahamas (too expensive), Sanctuary Hotel on Kiawah Island (too hot and too expensive).

If that gives you a sense of what I'm looking for, give me some recos.

I just sent a week canoeing the Adirondacks.

1. 4/5 star accommodations

Plenty of old Adirondack camps/resorts.

2. <5 hours travel time from NJ (direct flight from EWR airport)

5 hours by car.

3. Moderate climate (i.e., <95 deg F, non-rainy season)

Yes and can be quite cool at night in the high peaks.

4. Good food

Lake Placid.

5. Not too expensive (e.g., Necker Island)

Anywhere from $15 for a campsite to $1000 for a high end resort. Everything in between.

6. Good beach or pool

Pristine lakes and rivers.

Nightlife consisted of loons calling each other.

I'll rent you my lakehouse in the Adirondacks for $30,000 a day. Sound good?
