I got a flyer in the mail yesterday stating that Neiman-Marcus is having a 33% off sale on selected merchandise starting on December 2.  This suggests that there's still a ways to go before Last Call.

I assumed Last Call wouldn't start until after Christmas. Do you think it'll start earlier?

Last Call has traditionally started early in January

Last Call starts in January and the timing typically varies by the location. Usually the Texas stores hold LC earlier in Jan and later in the July LC, since winter "ends" earlier in Texas and they can then ship the goodies up to the cold weather states. The opposite happens in the summer LC sale.

What that means is if you're in the north, you get your store's LC items plus the leftovers from the south, for the January sale. That's not a bad thing at all, since it just means extra items to check out that weren't at your local store during the initial markdown period. The opposite happens in July, when the Texans get a new shipment of items just in time for LC.

Keep in mind, too, folks, that NM has what are called "point of sale" mark-downs -- on top of the FC sale price. Management likes to keep the dates of these POS mark-downs, but in the past, they've come either just before or just after Christmas. When you do all the math, these POS mark-downs come pretty close to (but not quite...) matching what will eventually be the LC price. For what it's worth...

PS Picked up some nice stuff at FC (Kiton, Oxxford, etc.). :*)

A NM associate at the Mazza Gallerie store told me that Last Call would begin in late November.  Apparently, he interpreted "Last Call" in my query to mean "first markdowns."

Could you help me understand these sales a bit better? Is everything in the store this % off? I went to a NM the other day, and there were not really any sale signs (there were some, but they all said to ask a sales associate about the sale). So this means when LC rolls around you can get the shirts marked 150$ for 60% off or something?

Also, I didn't get a chance to look around that much - does NM carry suits on discount in the cheaper range 200-400$ or just the higher end full retail stuff?

Spoke to my contact at NM in Beverly Hills today and said that Tomorrow, Dec. 1, they have a presale day where you can go in and tag/purchase the items you want and can see what's going to be on sale for the Dec. 2nd Sale. I had ordered a Loro Piana Pullover (mentioned earlier) but since they didn't have my size in stock, they had to have it sent in from another store. Unfortunately, LP will not be part of the sale, or so i'm told. [IMG] Stevo

NM's Last Call is in mid-January with selected suits 60% to 65% off original prices in the $1000 to $5000+ range. Hickey Freeman and Paul Smith are $1000 to $2000, followed by Armani. Oxxford is slightly less than Brioni and Kiton is $3000 to $5000+. As of now First Call is 1/3 off. After Christmas there will be an addition 25% off sale items.

I'm not really an NM shopper, so I always thought Last Call referred to their outlets. If I understand correctly, the 'traditional' retail stores have a LC sale...then I guess whatever doesn't move goes to the Last Call stores? [IMG]
