Before I begin:
LETS NOT TURN THIS INTO THE SAME FIASCO THAT OCCURRED LAST TIME.
That being said, apparently the primary reason that NM pushes the NM charge card (aside from the obvious) is that it has lower-than-average credit requirements. That is to say that as long as you have a viable credit score and another major credit card and are not, say in trouble with the IRS, it is almost a guarantee to be approved for the NM charge card.
Thus, since they make it so easy to get their card, and a salesperson can make a quick application right at the point-of-sale, and notify you if you are approved or not right at the register...you are faced with an overwhelming stance to get their card, especially when faced with the alternative of only cash or AmEx.
