Nitro-s Ebay ad designs a plus, neutral or a negative?

Do you feel that Nitro-s ad design would make you more likely to buy from him? You are neutral, and it doesn't effect your decision, or are it's a negative and makes you less likely to buy from him? BTW: After reading Pete's posts, I thought of this thread as a way of constructive criticism for Pete, I'm glad he's decided to post. I've always thought that his products and prices were very nice deals indeed. I also though the ads were a little garrish, and that was a little deterrent, but ultimately his feedback is the key. I noted that some SF members bought Isaia Tuxedos from him at great prices, and were quite satisfied. That's hard to argue with. But I think that a more "User friendly", efficient e-commerce layout ad might result in better results for him. I'm no expert on E-commerce nor ad design, so I thought I'd see what others thought. Pete, ( Nitro), I hope you take this as constructive criticism! Here is link to his sales: http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZnitr-oQQhtZ-1

I'd still buy from him - sometimes I even try and scope out auctions that might deter bidders, thinking I'll get a better price - but I think his layout is distracting.

It's hard to find information, and the product is hard to 'recognize' immediately. If Pete used a clear, visually-pleasing layout that showcased his fine product and better-than-ebay-average photos, as well as a clear concise item description, terms, and measurements, I'd think more people would bid.

Of course, my suggestion just another strategy, his current strategy of a glitzy and busy page may work well for him.

As both a continous ebay seller and buyer, a critique would reveal the following suggestions:

- Nitr-ometer. I know it's your little 'signature' thing, but it would be better to talk about the points you rate on in the description of the fabric, construction, etc. It's simply too distracting and blocks important text - maybe some bidders would even have trouble figuring out how to close it, frustrating them enough to click off your page.

- Description should not be centered or in bold, italics, and underlined.

- Measurements look good, as do your terms and conditions. Fairly straightforward and easy enough to find.

- Select a different color scheme, but that is personal preference

- I just noticed you had that set of three spheres you can click and be taken to pages that show how your items are measured. That is really really cool and useful, and should be something that is clearly noted and labeled on your page, to have attention drawn to it. Also, the links to the diagrams seem to be broken.

- Your pics are decent, better than most sellers, and the lighting is good and seems to represent the color. You need to work a little bit more on composing the pics to make them look a little more flattering.

- You don't really need the Nitro arrows near the scroll bar that allow you to hover your mouse over to move the page up or down.

I do enjoy the amount of attention put into each listing, as evidenced by the pictures and Nitr-ometer. However, as noted underneath the Nitr-ometer, the 1-10 scale is his subjective measure of quality for each of the categories besides "Viscosity." Thus, the overall rating doesn't really mean much since that category is included. All else equal, a lighter-weight suit will always be rated lower than a heavy, winter-appropriate suit - not a very useful rating when July comes around.

Also, the use of the adjective "yummy" in some of the titles is pretty annoying.

That aside, I do enjoy seeing what Pete has up for sale.

wait a second... why are we trying to help nitr-o's auctions garner more bidders, and thus higher ending prices for us buyers?? I too search out flawed auctions (misspellings, obvious mismeasurements, etc) because I know it turns a lot of my cometing bidders off. Altruism is all well and good, and sellers who have goods like nitr-o are the patron saints of StyleForum, but this working-against-our-chances-of-getting-bargains strikes me as cookoo-caca.

There's always a bit of self-interest behind altruism, don't you think? Perhaps a decent amount of constructive input could lead to an...ahem...SF discount?

Not to be critical, but if you are going to run a poll, it's important to include the full range of opinions. The four choices given don't do that. Options 3 and 4 are essentially the same. How about:

Like his ads, and they make me want to buy.
Like his ads, but they are immaterial to my buying or not.
Am neutral about his ads; they don't affect me one way or the other.
Dislike his ads, but they are immaterial to my buying or not.
Dislike his ads, and they deter me from buying.

Have I missed anything?
