Hey guys, I'm having a little problem with my new Nikon D70. I use Nikkor 24-85mm AF lens. The camera had no problem with autofocus yesterday but this afternoon it just doesn't autofocus anymore (i've set the mode to AUTO and switch the thing infront of the camera to AF) Any solutions?

Several months ago, I purchased a D80 package with three lenses from a local retailer. I experienced a similar problem until I took the camera back into the retailer. It was nearly embarassing for me, but, when I took the camera back with a similar challenge . . . they resovled the issue for me quickly. All they did was to release the lens from the body and re-set the lens onto the body. Suddenly, the autofocus worked.

I don't know if this will work for your camera or not. The camera dealer I use is nothing special. However, they simply went through the steps I neglected and got the solution I could not find.

Thank you. Don't worry it was very embarassing for me, too. I didn't read the instructions thoroughly and kept holding the release button when I insert the lens to the body. Of course I didn't hear that "click" sound and thus the camera cannot recognize the lens as AF.

A few things to check:

- Make sure lens is locked in completely.
- Make sure contacts on the camera mount and the lens are clean. Dirty contacts can cause the lens to not work properly.
- Make sure, in menu settings, you don't have the AE button activated as the focusing source.
