As a long time Kobe collector it's sad to see but Nike did this to themselves. The way they have handled his releases after 1/26/20 have been atrocious. Good for Vanessa and the family. She wants more availability and life-long deal.

Facts. There was an article months ago citing that Kobe was shopping his own brand and he was very displeased with Nike. He was never going to resign with them anyway.

Serious question but did Kobe shoes not sell well because people didn't like them, he retired, or because Nike didn't push/market them enough?

Things always sell well after the person dies. The Kobe's weren't like Jordans where people loved them for years and they became iconic. I can't think of any other retired player whose shoe sells well besides Jordan. Iverson, Barkley, Penny, etc.

I wasn't a fan of Kobe so never really got into them and Nike shoes suck for outdoor ball so I was looking at and buying other brands for the infrequent times I played.

@Timbaland his death definitely boosted sales but his nike sneakers were never popular. Nor were the Lebrons. I actually think Kobe's Adidas sneaks were cool. My friend used to play bball in them. I had grant hills and later on switched to andOne which were super light and perfect for bBall.

They were too much basketball shoes. No one buyers the earlier Jordan’s to play basketball, they buy it for normal wear.

Apparently more NBA players hoop in Kobes than any other shoe.

But yeah, definitely less cool than Jordans as a lifestyle shoe obviously.

From a marketing standpoint, there is huge value in having the three greatest modern basketball superstars in Jordan, Kobe, and Lebron all associated with the brand. Sucks to lose that.

What makes you say that his shoes were never popular? I saw them everywhere on courts especially when he brought low tops back

I think that's been more in the past year probably as tribute. Ja Morant has only been wearing Kobes since his injury this season, but he wore a bunch of different non-Kobe Nikes his rookie year.
