Quite a funky little site - impressed with the look and feel of the site Disappointed that they don't have 44's and 46's but hey well it's a start I agree with you these troos are the stars so far

Just thought I would share a top tip for a few Cabourn pieces pre- SS11.

Before SS11 the ends of hangman knot chord adjusters were left unfinished so that they frayed quite badly so I used some brown waxed linen thread to create a whip finish

These were my first attempts on the SS10 Mandalay Pakaway coat

And here is a link to the knots

    http://www.ropeworks.biz/reader/whipping.pdf

I've done this on a few NC pieces and it works a treat and the brown waxed linen thread is ideal

Just been looking on the new Cabourn site - Cruise in Glasgow stocks Cabourn and Corniche have been missed off the British stockists list !
Just have a look at the number of German stockists !
I think there is a verse in the bible that says something like 'a prophet is not always welcome in his own land'

The list of stockists seems awfully out of date anyway. It lists a store in The Hague that closed recently and hasn't stocked new seasons of NG for over two years anyway and also Nitty Gritty and Tresbien in Sweden who have stopped carrying Cabourn this or last season.

Crusie has to be one of the worst shops in the world. The Glasgow one is marginally better than the Edinburgh one but I just can't see how Cabourn will fit in amongst all the Armani, Gucci and Hugo Boss which I assume is driven by their customers. Although there have been lots of rumours that they've been struggling over the last few years so may be they're trying to branch out. Hopefully the Cabourn items they stock sell well.

Was having a look around various things this morning and came across this on Farfetch. Pretty cool Cameraman in a colourway I hadn't seen before. Does anyone know what season its from?

Not a bad looking Cameraman. I definitely think the ones with more contrast work best. My navy/navy is very stealthy and I've often regretted not getting one with a more pronounced tweed.

For the record, I was a very good boy and only peeked briefly at the latest Marrkt, and that only long after all the good stuff had been ripped from the racks. On the same note, I've added more stuff to my for-sale ads, including 2 pairs of brand new selvedge work jeans in a decent size 34. Just saying. Times are hard.

I think it was AW11 - there were 2 versions of the Cameraman with either lined oilcloth or waxed cotton uppers instead of macintosh - this is the navy version

Just checked and it had a lined waxed cotton upper and interestingly boasted a waxed Harris Tweed lower which caused a bit of interest in tweed circles.
There were a few around at the time - i remember Flannels getting them in but definately didn't see it in my size

    Cheers guys.

Why is it that you always find cool stuff when your hungover and can't be bothered to move? At least I never seen it when I came in from the pub. Don't you just hate it when you get surprise packages turning up at work?:spew:

Might pick it up at a later date if its still there but not looking to buy winter wear just now. Farfetch are saying that L'Eclaireur have a 50 and a 52 if anyone's interested.

    Ippe fit
Thanks for the link, I woke up morning after been on the beer and one knot was undone on my beeswax cameraman. Always thought it was a fisherman knot but it looked wrong when I looked it up. Where did you get the new cord. I also picked up another raw cameraman in a size 48. After buying the 2 king George on here in a size 48 and the fit was spot on i bought a raw in 48 new off the bay. £259 shipped. Was surprised it did not sell after its 7 day listing for that price. The funny thing is that the yellow is pretty different between the 50 and the 48, and yes the beeswax is yellow as well. Will post some pics when I come off night shift.

It was just really a post about finishing the ends of the chords on the pre-SS11 pieces that are susceptible to fraying

This is a close up of the whip finish on a Cameraman chord which is probably my neatest finish

It's a good point though about the knot because they do come unravelled and its not easy to work out how they are done if you don't use this knot fishing.

It's easy once you see a diagram

Check this link and scroll down to 'hangmans knot' - this is the knot

    Hello

It's all gone very quiet on the forum

Hope there haven't been any nasty accidents with experiments on retying the hangman's knots !!

Anybody acquired any new NC's pieces which they can share - anybody invested in anything on the new Cabourn site or taken advantage on End Clothing's free worldwide shipping offer?

Interesting reading some of the descriptions and history of the garments on the new Cabourn site. Looks like Nigel has found the original source of the camo print to a 1940's SAS pattern.

Although, having done a quick bit of research, I think it more likely that it was used predominantly in the early 1950's with SAS operations in Malaya. The same camo pattern was used by Canadian troops as well in Malaya and Rhodesia in the early 50's.

I remember reading an interview with Nigel where he told the story of when he was in Japan a few years ago and a chap walked in wearing some vintage camo trousers which although he suspected them to be British in origin, he didn't recognise the pattern. He bought the trousers off the chap and It's this pattern he has had exclusively printed and first appeared last year.
