I'd like to find a nice winter coat, that doesn't look like the typical ski jacket you'd buy at Walmart, but it must be warm to withstand the perilous cold of Montreal.

I saw a Loro Piana jacket somewhere, nice a simple, yet apparently very warm. Any other options?

It would be difficult to better Loro Piana jackets.  The Storm System ones are unique--there are warm, waterproof, and well styled.
Water proof? I like what I'm hearing.

The problem is, where on the web can I find it? It seems Loro Piana has no website?

Using LP's Storm System material is different from those actually made by LP. LP licenses its different fabrics to a gazillion makers. I myself always appreciate LP's own design and style best; I have however seen some Storm System coats from Armani that I like (style-wise) but wouldn't buy (construction-wise).

Michigan is just as brutal as Montreal. Although your winter lasts longer than ours.

Last year, I purchased a Brooks Bros. storm system LP topcoat. Through snow storms, wind, sleet, and gushing rainstorms, that coat provides perfect protection. Water literally bounces off the coat. It is great. One of the best purchase I've ever made.
