After I wash my hands, I've always been given to drying them on the back of my jeans. On my new RRDG project jeans, will this lead to interesting distressing later on, or will it just look marsupialed to have these streaks on the back of the ass?

Don't you find that you get indigo all over your hands?

Oh, I should have clarified: since I started wearing the dry jeans, I have been careful not to do this, but am now wondering whether it would turn out kinda cool.

I think you'd have to wash your hands with OCD-frequency to make any sort of noticeable mark.

I do that all the time and it doesn't leave weird fading marks.

Indigo is not water soluable, so a wet hand should not cause any more to rub off than a dry hand would.

Nonetheless, in the early stages of the dry denim process, vigorous rubbing will take some off. Besides, no one goes around rubbing their jeans with a dry hand either.

I would say don't worry about it. It should cause some slight fading, but for the most part any type of "natural" wear should look good on your jeans. I wipe my hands off on my jeans all the time and it doesn't seem to produce any awkward wear.

So why does washing jeans remove the indigo?

it just removes the indigo that has been knocked loose from the fabric by wear.

Drying your hands on raw denim will accelerate normal wear. Try drying them behind the knees for better honeycombs, etc.

don't worry about it. in fact, don't even think about your pants. put it out of your mind entirely. and one day, you will take off your jeans and throw them on the floor and find that they are nicely faded without any mental exertion whatsoever.

Personally I prefer to lube up before I rub my jeans, and by the sounds of it so do you.
