What are the essential elements of NFL analyst style? I mean, what elements would make you say "that guy is dressed like one of those ESPN football guys"? Who are currently the worst offenders?

I know this look isn't exactly popular on SF, this thread is just for fun.

For ESPN and some of the other sports Networks around and their guests. I have seen a lot of them wearing custom jackets, partly because they can afford it and partly because they need a better fit. A lot of the fabrics and details are where the mainstream are headed; other details will be forgotten. An emphasis on the newer, more expensive, finer fabrics. Duchamp ties are a favorite. They all wear jackets and ties but usually with bolder colors and patterns. Traditional clothes with some pizzaz, many of these men like to dress and look serious but not drab. They can get away with more colors. WHat is more they influence people watching them a lot.

I guess bold fabrics and giant tie knots are the two main things which separate the ex-athletes from regular journalists.

What details do you think might become mainstream?

The hallmarks, I believe, are:

Super-wide shoulders
Fat tie knots
Loud pinstripes
Wacky colors
Five button suits.

Basically it's a variation of this:

FYI: Tiki Barbers wife is some big shot at Zegna. I heard him mention it in an interview one time. He said something to the effect of "My works at Zegna and gets me all clothes and dresses me up as her trophy husband. Short of wiping my own ass she has total control of my life."

3 button suits with the top 2 buttons fastened and agree on the matching pocket square and tie.

This style looks completely different on hefty NFL players than it does on elongated NBA guys. Perhaps better, or at least less bad.
