Eli is above average at best, not elite. He gets hot every 4 years or so at the end of the season and during the post-season but that's it. As much as I love saying Peyton is a great "regular season" quarterback, there's no doubt that he's objectively far better than Eli can ever hope to be. Give Peyton Strahan, Tuck, Osi, JPP, etc. on the other side of the ball and see what happens..

And don't forget that Trent Dilfer has a ring and Dan Marino does not.

Would you rather be "the best QB that never won a Superbowl" or one of the fewer than 30 people on earth who have actually won one as a starting QB?

Ask Lefty how he felt about being the "best golfer to never win a major" - I'm pretty sure he hated it.

The point is that ring# does not correlate to your relative level of quality qua football player.

Let's keep the gargling of LeBron's balls in the NBA thread, edina.

Eli isn't elite but he sure is special. This is my official stance as a lifelong Giants fan.

how but the even shorter list of people that one the SB as a starting QB, twice. i dont know why anyone would really say eli is anything but a top tier QB.

Because he's been good but not great outside of those 2 SB runs. Granted, I'd take that in a heart beat over just about anything else but Eli isn't consistently great like Peyton, Brady, Brees, or Rodgers.

Eli is the QB you least want to face in the playoffs. The problem is that he will make a lot of really bad mistakes during the regular season that will often keep the Giants out of the playoffs in the first place.

he is consistently pretty damn good. i cant think of many QBs id want playing for me ahead of him, which i think makes him top tier. in any case, at the least he provides the football word great conversation about whether or not he is elite.

Above average was overly harsh, but Sunday's game was brutal. FWIW, I'd probably rank him somewhere around #8, which is pretty damn good for a league where there are 32 starting quarterbacks. He's good, but IMO not in the same category as Rodgers / Brady / Peyton / Brees who are the only one's I'd put in the "elite" group. There's another group of QBs I wouldn't call elite but who are good, probably 4-5 of them. Eli is too damn streaky for the elite category (see e.g. weeks 1-2 of this season) but fits nicely into that next category.

As for all the rookies last year now entering their second year, I like to see 3 years from any QB before I feel confident ranking them. I do think some have elite QB potential, though.

i can agree to that. i think he is trying to overcompensate for the lack of run game and solid defense. he should know better. so i guess in that sense he is not quite elite. an elite QB would try and minimize those mistakes and if he loses for lack of running or defense, thats not on him. i still think he is great.
